Hey all! I am back with some book reviews for ya! Let’s do this ๐
Eight Perfect Murders by Peter Swanson
I enjoyed reading this particular mystery although it is contemporary and I usually stick to mysteries that take place pre-technology. Definitely a good lazy weekend kind of read.
Darling Rose Gold by Stephanie Wrobel
So, so good! A psychological mystery about a mother/daughter relationship that is seriously off-the-chain crazy. You are going to want to read this one!
Between The World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates
Excellent book. I am at a loss for words on how to adequately explain this book while also explaining how good it truly is. I will say this though: if you are looking to expand your reading regarding #BlackLivesMatter and want to read more books by Black authors, then you will want to pick up this book.
Untamed by Glennon Doyle
Oh my word, this book. I am sure many of you have read this book and know all about how good this book really is ๐ Glennon’s writing makes you laugh, makes you cry, and most importantly, makes you think. Amazing, amazing book!
Death in the Family by Tessa Wegert
Awful, awful book. You would think that a book about a locked-room mystery taking place on an island would be good. A brutal storm traps everyone on an island off the coast of New York and two detectives who are called in to a missing persons case there, must try and figure out what happened. I almost DNF this several times and part of me wishes I had. Terrible narrator, bad character development, horrible use of metaphors that makes your eyes hurt. Awful book, like I said. Do not read.

Rose Gold sounds like a very interesting read. Though I have heard mix reviews about it. Only one way to find out, right?! Untamed is on my list of books to read. It has had raved reviews and I cannot wait to get my hands on it!

I’m going to need to re-read Between the World and Me at some point.
I LOVED Eight Perfect Murders. I got it right before everything shut down and wound up having it in my house for 3 months. Even though I read it in 3 days.
Mackenzie says
Eight Perfect Murders was such a great read! I loved how it totally kept you guessing ๐

I’m so glad you liked Rose Gold. I really enjoyed it so much. That mother … whoa. And her daughter, well … we wouldn’t want to give anything away. ๐ I’ve read the first chapter of Untamed but then all the Covid-19 stuff broke out, so I didn’t finish it and tried again with no luck because I had zero reading mojo. I’ve heard nothing but great things and the little bit I read was fantastic. I will get to it eventually. I’ve also heard great things overall about Peter Swanson’s thrillers but haven’t had a chance to read any of them but they are all on my TBR. Some day, I’ll get to them. Hope you are doing well. I heard they voted in the OC to hold school in-person this Fall without masks or social distancing. Yikes.
Mackenzie says
Oh my word, the craziness that was Darling Rose Gold!!! That book was so good but it was so nutso!
Yeah, the Orange County Board of Education voted to have all the kids go back with no masks, as if nothing is going on. But, the good news is that my particular school district let us know that they do not follow nor are they required to follow ANYTHING that the OCBE says. Ever. The school district said they are requiring masks if and when the kids do go back, and they aren’t even sure if that is going to happen or not. They might start out with online learning like Los Angeles County and San Diego County. *sigh* We shall see what happens.

Rose Gold was a book I couldn’t put down & the ending! Reminded me so much of the Gypsy Rose story but a different ending.
Mackenzie says

I feel like Peter Swanson is someone I see come up pretty often on the linkup, but I’ve never looked into any of his books. Ohh no, Death in the Family does sound like such an interesting premise- I hate when books end up being disappointing like that.
Mackenzie says
This was the first Peter Swanson book I had ever read and I was pleasantly surprised ๐
Ugh, Death in the Family was so awful. The premise sounded so promising but the writing was terrible.
