March is here already and with that comes another book review! 🙂 Here is what i have been reading the past month:
A Cold Trail by Robert Dugoni
The latest book in the Detective Tracy Crosswhite series and it did not disappoint. A contemporary mystery which kept me interested and trying to read as fast as I could so I could get to the ending!
Cards on the Table by Agatha Christie
5 people in a room. One person is murdered. One of the 4 remaining people in the room is a murderer, but which one? This mystery is set up to make you think you know who did it, but you really don’t. Looks like a simple crime, but it is not. It is however, an excellent mystery by the queen of crime herself, Ms. Agatha Christie.
A Divided Loyalty by Charles Todd
I wanted to love this book more than I did. I do enjoy the series as a whole and it is one of my favorites, but this book left way too much to chance and coincedence, and in a mystery novel, that only goes so far.
The Shadows We Hide by Allen Eskens
I really enjoyed this book, the second in this particular series. Great reading and the main character Joe Talbert, has had a lot of hard knocks but you root for him just the same.
My Name is Lucy Barton by Elizabeth Strout
The only non-mystery in the bunch. I really wanted to like this book more than I actually did. I felt like it was lacking something and I wanted more, what I am not sure, but it didn’t feel finished.
Well, that’s it from me. Any good books that you can recommend?

Okay, I think I know my next Agatha Christie mystery because Cards on the Table sounds excellent. I’m behind on Allen Eskens but I love him and need to get caught up. Back in California, they didn’t carry all of his books but I’m guessing they do here, since he’s a Minnesota writer. 😀 And yes, too much chance and coincidence gets a little annoying in mysteries.
Mackenzie says
Oh that’s right, the author is from Minnesota! I forgot. Yeah, you should definitely pick up his books. Jana and I give him our seal of approval 😉
Yes, please read Cards on the Table! I’d love to know what you think of it!!
Jana @ Jana Says says
I love that we both read Allen Eskens this month. His books are so good, and I really liked how he did this as a sort of sequel to The Life We Bury.
Mackenzie says
Yes!!! His books are so good! I want him to write more in this series 🙂

It’s way past time for me to read the second Allen Eskens book.
I would happily read the Tracy series forever.
Mackenzie says
The Tracy Crosswhite series is so well-written!

I’ve been working my way through the Crosswhite series and really like them and Dugoni’s other works. Eskens books are on my TBR list.
Mackenzie says
The Crosswhite series is so good! I hope he continues to write more of this series 🙂

It is such a good book! 🙂

My Name is Lucy Barton felt completely empty to me. I kept waiting for something to happen. Nothing did. Ever. Apparently the “sequel” of short stories is about the characters and I kept thinking “What could POSSIBLY be said about them?”
Mackenzie says
Yes, exactly!!! You summed it up absolutely! I kept waiting for something to happen as well, or some point to it all, but there just wasn’t.
Becki says
I don’t think I’ve ever read an Agatha Christie mystery. And I totally should. Thanks for sharing!
Mackenzie says
She is my favorite mystery author 😀
