My reading was all over the place the past month including starting a book and being so annoyed by it, that I did not finish it and fumed about how awful the writing and plot line was. Oh well, onwards and upwards.
Notes on a Nervous Planet by Matt Haig
Excellent book by an excellent author about how to navigate the world we live in now with being “plugged in” all the time. Needing to always know what is going on in the world has taken a toll on our lives mentally and has been shown to be a contributing factor to anxiety.
Vintage Hughes by Langston Hughes
Not a huge fan of poetry but Langston Hughes and his writing is timeless and oddly poignant in this day and age. Definitely recommend giving this one a read.
A Dangerous Engagement by Ashley Weaver
Another book in the Amory Ames series, this one following Amory and her husband as they head to New York in 1933 for a wedding and someone of course, gets murdered. I really enjoy this series and this book passed the time just fine.
Five Little Pigs by Agatha Christie
Y’all know how much I love Agatha Christie, but I have to say, this is one of the few books of hers where I actually like the film adaptation better.
The book that I stopped reading in disgust was a mystery novel called Gallows Court. It was awful 🙁
That’s it for me this month. Any good book reccomendations you guys have?

I definitely want to read Haig’s book. It was funny (well, not haha funny) because you recommended Reasons to Stay Alive to me and I liked but did not love it at the time of my review. But I went back and reread and loved it. I think initially his description of how depression felt to him was too hard for me so I emotionally distanced myself. Now I’m a raving fan of his. A bad book can turn me into a raving lunatic too, where I read all the nasty reviews on Amazon and wonder why I didn’t notice them before. I’ve never heard of Gallow Courts but I’ll avoid it if I see it at the library. 😀

Yeah, Reasons to Stay Alive was definitely hard to grapple with at times, I think especially when one also suffers from depression. But it was such a great read!
Yes please stay away from Gallows Court. Bloody awful 🙁

I’m not a big nonfiction reader but I’m interested in the first one.

I found it interesting for sure.

I’ve never read anything by Matt Haig, but I keep seeing his name pop up. Since you seem to be a fan, would you recommend I start with this one, or one of his other works?
Mackenzie says
Reasons to Stay Alive is really great. I also enjoyed How to Stop Time, which is a fiction book but so well-written! 🙂

I need to read Matt Haig’s book. I like him a lot.

I found it an interesting discourse on current events and why we have such high anxiety.

I haven’t read this Christie novel, but I want to read more by her in general.

Both are definitely worth reading 🙂

I don’t think I’ve heard of the Amory Ames series, but I’m intrigued now! Any kind of mystery supported by a fellow Agatha Christie fan is something I need to check out
Mackenzie says
Yay! I hope you enjoy it 🙂
