Hey all! A quick word before I dive into my book review post… Some of you guys didn’t see or receive my last post explaining my change-over from a free WordPress site to my new home here at mackenziecarose.com. It is still me! 🙂 Just a proverbial butterfly spreading her blogging wings!
Now on to the show…
The Minimalist Home by Joshua Becker
This is a good book if you are just starting off in your decluttering/minimizing journey. If you are a seasoned pro and clutter is basically a four-letter word to you, then go ahead and skip it.
The Wellness Mama 5-Step Lifestyle Detox by Katie Wells
Good overview about why being healthy is important not to just ourselves, but to our children. Chockfull of natural cleaning ideas/methods/way of life. I found it interesting. Also, you don’t need to be a “mama” to read this book. It really is for everyone.
Cocaine Blues: A Miss Fisher Murder Mystery by Kerry Greenwood
I love, love, love the series which is on Netflix right now, staring Essie Davis. It is sooooo good 🙂 I thought hey, let me read the first book in the series since I am watching the show. Meh… Not enamoured. That’s okay though. The series is worth watching guys, trust me!
Essential by The Minimalists
I enjoyed this book. It is full of essays from their website focusing on specific topics such as finances, health, relationships, technology and minimalism, just to name a few.
Mrs. McGinty’s Dead by Agatha Christie
Now y’all know I could not do a book review post without mentioning my girl!! All I have to say about this book, is that you’ll never guess who did the crime and why Mrs. McGinty had to die. Great page-turner!
A Pale Horse by Charles Todd
Scotland Yard inspector Ian Rutledge has to find out why a dead man was left in the abbey of a monastery with a WW1 gas mask covering his face, when it also is apparently obvious that he wasn’t killed there. Intrigued now, aren’t you? 🙂
That’s it! Any great books that you guys can recommend?

I’ve seen the Fisher series on Netflix but never watched, this might be the recommendation I needed 🙂

i’m straight up obsessed with the show miss fishers, so even though i knew the books differed a little bit i figured why not.. yeah, like you, not enamored. i read the first 3 and then kind of fizzled out. i’ve watched the show like 75 times though.
Mackenzie says
Yes, I am totally obsessed with this show!!!!

I make a few wellness mama cleaners, I had no idea she had a book!
Mackenzie says
Yeah, she had some really good ideas in this book 🙂

You are going to sooooooooo proud of me, Mackenzie. I just checked out my first Agatha Christie book! Yes, I did. I haven’t started it yet but I have no doubt the greatest mystery writer ever will deliver. And also I can now hold my mystery-loving head up, since I will have finally read an Agatha Christie novel. The Wellness Mama book also interests me. I’m always on the lookout for DIY cleaners and such.
Mackenzie says
Yay for checking out an Agatha Christie novel!! Which one did you check out?
The Wellness Mama was very interesting. I think you’ll like it. She also has a cookbook! 🙂

I got the first book in the Poirot series, The Mysterious Affair at Styles. I figured book #1 made the most sense since I’m assuming I love it and want to continue reading the series. And really, the only book I avoided was Orient Express because I know whodunit, which might affect my enjoyment of the story.
Obviously not a regular reading of mom blogs, but Wellness Mama rings some dim bells. My library unfortunately doesn’t have a copy of the detox book but does have her cookbook. I might check that out first, then track down her cleaning book.
Mackenzie says
Oooh, I love The Mysterious Affair at Styles! Great choice 🙂

I feel like this is the most you post that there ever was. Agatha Christie and minimalism. So you.
I sort of want to read Minimalist Home because the idea appeals to me SO MUCH but I also feel like I’ll get overwhelmed and sad because that’s not my life right now.
Mackenzie says
Ha, ha, I know right? 😉
I like books like The Minimalist Home because the whole Marie Kondo thing, just doesn’t appeal to me. I tried to read her book and to be honest, it just didn’t spark joy *snort* No, but seriously, her methods just aren’t my thing. But The Minimalist Home is a really easy read!

I’ve definitely heard that the Miss Fisher books are not as good as the show. Oh well! I do adore the show… 🙂 XO – Alexandra

I loved the Miss Fisher’s show but have heard that the books are just okay. I’m so excited that a movie is supposed to be coming out soonish, I think!
Mackenzie says
Yes, I heard there is a movie coming out as well! Yay!!
Kasey Holloway says
The Minimalist Home sounds like something I would really enjoy!
Mackenzie says
It is definitely a good book for starting off on a decluttering journey!
